National Assembly Forms Committee for State Police Initiative

The National Assembly has set up a conference committee on state police, as announced by Deputy Speaker Kalu. This committee was established on Wednesday in Abuja and includes lawmakers from both the red and green chambers.

Kalu highlighted that state police would enhance local security and ensure quicker crime response. He argued that the current insecurity in the country necessitates a restructured command and control of security apparatus at the state level.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah emphasized the need for adequate funding for state police, stating that security is a top priority for his administration. He also mentioned the importance of investing in technology, such as AI-enabled CCTV cameras, to improve security measures.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal assured that state police would address persistent insecurity issues. He urged lawmakers to implement measures to prevent abuse of power by state police.
