Plateau Lawmakers Support State Police Legislation

Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly pledged swift action on legislation to establish a state police force, aimed at addressing persistent security challenges in the region. Speaker Naanlong Daniel assured that the bill would receive prompt legislative attention once it reaches the assembly.

The commitment came during a visit from the Plateau State Advisory Committee on State Police, led by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Habila Joshak. The committee advocates for a decentralized police structure to improve local security responses and public safety.

Daniel noted that the establishment of a state police would significantly contribute to ending prolonged insecurity affecting parts of Plateau State. He emphasized the need for collective action among stakeholders to achieve lasting peace.

The committee is tasked with developing a framework for the proposed police model, which is seen as vital for enhancing security management and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.
