N’Assembly Approves Pipeline Surveillance Contract

The Nigerian National Assembly has endorsed a pipeline surveillance contract with Tantita Security Services Nigeria to bolster the security of oil pipelines and mitigate crude theft. This decision was made during a parliamentary roundtable on pipeline security held on Wednesday.

Mr. Henri Okoji, the Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream), emphasized that the surveillance arrangement would enhance the protection of oil infrastructure and boost production levels.

Data indicates that Nigeria's crude oil output has increased to 1.8 million barrels per day as of April 2026, up from 900,000 barrels per day in 2022. The contract aims to address long-standing grievances in the Niger Delta, where pipeline vandalism and illegal refining have been rampant.

The initiative is expected to create thousands of jobs for local youth and improve accountability in oil production. However, challenges remain, particularly regarding transparency and ongoing crude oil theft in the region.
