APC Defends Real-Time Election Result Transmission Law

Felix Morka, the spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC), defended the National Assembly's handling of the recent amendments to the Electoral Act, which include provisions for real-time electronic transmission of election results. Speaking during a program on Channels Television, Morka characterized the lawmakers' decision as pragmatic and realistic, taking into account the technological realities of Nigeria.

He noted that the swift passage of the Electoral Act, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu less than 24 hours after being passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, sparked debate across the country. Critics questioned the speed of the legislative action, but Morka stressed that the outcome of the amendment process reflects the collective will of the members of the legislature.

He highlighted the need for Nigeria to balance aspirations with existing infrastructural limitations, acknowledging the challenges of connectivity in various regions of the country.
