Senate Denies Manipulation Claims in Akpoti-Uduaghan Case

The Nigerian Senate has dismissed allegations made by Adam Oshiomhole regarding the manipulation of a suspension report against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu stated that the claims are unfounded and a product of mischief.

The Senate confirmed that the disciplinary action against Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, followed due process and was handled openly. Adaramodu emphasized that any lawmaker violating Senate rules would face consequences, and Akpoti-Uduaghan was sanctioned for gross misconduct and unruly behavior, resulting in a six-month suspension.

This suspension, which includes withdrawal of salary and restricted access to legislative premises, was based on findings from the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges. Oshiomhole's allegations of forgery concerning signatures on the suspension report were also addressed, with the Senate asserting that such manipulation would not occur.

The controversy surrounding Akpoti-Uduaghan's suspension has reignited discussions about the integrity of the Senate's processes.
