Peter Obi Criticizes Nigerian Government Over National Grid Collapse

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has slammed the Nigerian government for its failure to address the repeated collapse of the national power grid. Obi described the situation as a national disgrace, pointing out the long-standing leadership failure in handling the electricity crisis.

He noted multiple grid collapses in 2025 and January 2026, emphasizing the embarrassing recurrence of system failures. Obi highlighted Nigeria's poor electricity access, ranking lowest globally with nearly 100 million Nigerians without electricity.

He compared Nigeria's electricity generation capacity unfavorably to countries like South Africa, Egypt, and Algeria. Obi attributed the power crisis to ineffective leadership and called for competent and empathetic leaders to drive the nation's progress.

He urged Nigerians to choose leaders based on their capabilities and dedication to turning the country around, especially with the upcoming 2027 general elections.
