NISO Restores Grid After Nationwide Blackout, 495MW Power Restored

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has started restoring the national electricity grid following a nationwide blackout caused by a system disturbance. The blackout affected various parts of the country, with a significant load drop leading to the disruption.

NISO reported that 495MW of power was restored after the incident. The blackout was attributed to the tripping of a Generation Company (Genco) facility.

Restoration efforts began promptly, with substantial progress made, especially from the Abuja and Shiroro power plants. Investigations into the root cause of the disturbance are ongoing to prevent future occurrences.
