Nigerian Grid Stability Maintained Amid Oil Workers' Strike Crisis

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) successfully maintained grid stability amidst an oil workers' strike that disrupted gas supply, causing a significant generation shortfall. The strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) led to a widespread gas shortage, impacting power generation across the country.

NISO reported a sharp drop in power generation to the lowest point, posing a risk of a nationwide blackout. To mitigate the crisis, NISO activated contingency measures, including optimizing hydropower resources to cushion the deficit caused by the disrupted gas supply chain.
