Nigerian Navy Dismantles Illegal Oil Storage in Rivers

The Nigerian Navy has successfully destroyed an illegal crude oil storage site located in the Bonny area of Rivers State, which contained 17,500 liters of suspected stolen crude oil. Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director Naval Information, announced this operation in a statement released on Friday.

The action was part of a broader directive from the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abba, aimed at intensifying efforts against crude oil theft and illegal bunkering across Nigeria's maritime domain. The operation was conducted by personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny, who uncovered the illegal storage facility during surveillance operations.

Utilizing maritime surveillance technology, the Navy detected concealed dugout pits hidden within thick vegetation along a creek. Following the discovery, the Navy swiftly recovered the product and subsequently destroyed it in accordance with existing operational guidelines.

This operation underscores the Navy's renewed momentum in tackling maritime crime and safeguarding Nigeria's economic interests.
