Nigerian Navy Rescues 16 Passengers from Sea Robbery

On a recent operation, the Nigerian Navy foiled a sea robbery and kidnapping attempt on the Bakassi route, rescuing 16 passengers aboard a commercial boat. The incident occurred at 3:50 PM when personnel stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Ibaka received a distress alert regarding an attack by suspected sea robbers along the maritime corridor linking Nigeria and Cameroon.

A naval gunboat was immediately deployed to intercept the attackers, who were reportedly armed. Upon arrival, the naval team engaged the assailants in a brief exchange of gunfire, forcing them to abandon the attack and escape into the shallow creeks surrounding the coastal terrain.

The naval personnel then took control of the distressed boat, confirming that all 16 passengers were safe and unharmed, with no casualties recorded during the operation. Following the rescue, the naval team escorted the vessel towards the Nigeria-Cameroon maritime boundary to ensure safe passage.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to enhance security in the Gulf of Guinea and combat maritime crime.
