Nigerian Navy Seizes N4 Billion in Stolen Crude Oil

On April 8, the Nigerian Navy successfully intercepted two vessels containing 939 metric tons of suspected stolen crude oil, valued at N4 billion. The operation took place at midnight within the Calabar and Akwa Ibom joint operational area, as disclosed by Olugbenga Oladipo, who briefed journalists in Calabar.

The arrests were made possible through credible intelligence gathered by the Navy, which coordinated the operation with support from the National Security Adviser and the Chief of Defence Staff. During the operation, 26 crew members were arrested.

Naval air assets were deployed to enhance surveillance and control of the area, and the crew was subsequently transferred to a naval jetty for further processing. This interception is part of ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft in Nigeria, following a similar operation that led to the arrest of the vessel MT Steliosk on April 10.
