Nigerian Navy Recovers Over 531,000 Litres of Oil

The Nigerian Navy has reported significant achievements in its fight against crude oil theft, recovering over 531,000 litres of illegally refined petroleum products and arresting 18 suspects during the first quarter of 2026. Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy's spokesperson, disclosed these figures in a statement, highlighting the operations conducted under the Delta Sentinel initiative launched on January 13, 2026.

This operation aims to enhance maritime security and curb oil theft in the Niger Delta, replacing the earlier Operation Delta Safe. The Navy recorded its highest volume of recovered products in February, totaling 360,700 litres, followed by 118,800 litres in January and 52,000 litres in March.

Notable operations included the seizure of 45,000 litres of stolen petroleum in River State and the discovery of a 96,000-litre illegal wellhead in Bayelsa State. The Navy has dismantled at least 22 illegal refining sites and continues to strengthen its efforts against oil theft networks.
