Nigerian Navy Boosts Oil Production to Five-Year High

The Nigerian Navy's intensified operations against crude oil theft have led to a notable increase in the country's crude oil production, reaching 1.71 million barrels per day by April 2026, up from 1.25 million barrels per day in January 2023. Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Abba made this disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja, coinciding with the commencement of activities marking the Nigerian Navy's 70th anniversary, scheduled for May 22 to June 4, 2026.

The Navy's efforts, which include sustained operations against illegal refining and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta, have significantly contributed to this increase in oil output. The Navy has enhanced maritime security through increased surveillance and personnel deployment, dismantling illegal refining sites, and disrupting criminal networks involved in oil theft.

These operations have also contributed to Nigeria's removal from the global list of high-risk maritime nations in 2022, reducing shipping insurance costs associated with international trade.
