Nigerian Navy Seizes 44,000 Liters of Illegally Refined Oil

The Nigerian Navy successfully intercepted 44,000 liters of illegally refined petroleum products and arrested eight suspects linked to these illegal activities. This operation took place in the River Niger area and was conducted by the Navy's Delta Sentinel personnel aboard the ship NN Pathfinder.

Commodore Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, stated that the operation was based on credible intelligence and involved the interception of two wooden boats laden with the illegally refined automotive gas oil. The arrested suspects were found fleeing the scene but were apprehended by the patrol team.

The recovered products are currently in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution. Commodore Folorunsho emphasized that this operation aligns with the directive from the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abba, to intensify efforts against crude oil theft and maritime crime, reinforcing the Navy's commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's maritime domain.
