Nigerian Navy Recovers 1,600 Litres of Illegal Diesel

The Nigerian Navy successfully recovered 1,600 litres of illegally refined diesel in Rivers State as part of ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft in the Niger Delta. The operation, conducted by personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship Soroh, was initiated following intelligence regarding illegal refining activities in the Okolomad Community of Abua Odual Local Government Area, close to the Bayelsa border.

According to Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation involved the deployment of an anti-crude oil theft team and aerial surveillance using unmanned systems, which led to the discovery of 16 sacks containing the illegal product. The suspects involved fled the scene upon the arrival of naval personnel, who adhered to operational procedures in handling the recovered items.

The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to dismantling illegal refining networks and ensuring that there is no safe haven for economic saboteurs, emphasizing the continuation of operations across the nation's waterways and creeks.
