NBA Pursues Justice for Lawyer Assaulted by Task Force

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Awka branch has vowed to ensure justice for lawyer Charl Ifeanyi, who was assaulted by officials of the Ocha Brigade on January 20, 2023, in Awka, Anambra State. The incident occurred when Ifeanyi allegedly intervened during an enforcement exercise by the task force, which involved the confiscation of goods belonging to a trader.

Following the assault, the NBA issued a press statement on April 24, 2023, confirming the arrest of Ocha Brigade officer Ibeto Wisdom Onyebuchi, who has been formally charged in court. The NBA's statement highlighted the lack of immediate official response and expressed concern over the incident.

They emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring that all individuals involved in the assault are held accountable. The NBA commended the Nigerian Police Force for their professional support in facilitating the arrest and reiterated their dedication to upholding the rule of law and human rights.
