NBA Rejects NSCDC Officers' Apology Over Assault Case

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has firmly rejected an apology issued by two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following allegations of assault against Nurudeen Abdullateef Aladodo. The NBA, represented by its chairman Suleiman Kosemani, stated that the apology does not override an existing court order compelling the officers to appear in court.

Kosemani expressed that the NBA remains open to hearing the officers' side of the story but emphasized that the integrity of the court process must not be compromised. The NBA's position aims to reduce tensions surrounding the matter, and they plan to convene a stakeholder meeting to determine the way forward.

Senior lawyer Yusuf Olaolu Ali condemned the alleged assault, highlighting a culture of impunity among uniformed personnel and calling for respect for the rule of law. The court had previously ordered the NSCDC to produce the officers, and failure to comply led to a bench warrant for their arrest, with the next court session scheduled for June 10, 2026.
