NBA Advocates for More Legal Officers in Amotekun Corps

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Akure Branch, has called on the Ondo State Government to second additional lawyers from the Ministry of Justice to the Amotekun Corps. This request aims to strengthen the legal scrutiny of charges and court processes, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and protecting the rights of suspects.

The call was made in a communiqué following the branch's monthly meeting at the Aare Afe Babalola Bar Centre in Akure, signed by branch chairman Mr Oju Kekemeke and secretary Oluwanike Omotayo. The NBA emphasized that the deployment of more legal practitioners is crucial for reviewing proposed charges before they reach the courts.

Additionally, the NBA criticized the state judiciary’s electronic filing system, which still requires physical document submissions after online uploads. They advocated for a fully electronic system and suggested that court registries should generate physical copies from uploaded documents when necessary.

The branch also requested that urgent ex parte applications be exempt from mandatory e-filing.
