Nigerian Bar Association to Petition Police Over Kwankwaso's Supreme Court Claims

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced its intention to petition the police over comments made by Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor and leader of the New Nigeria People's Party, regarding the Supreme Court. Kwankwaso's statements, made during a visit to the Supreme Court with Abba Yusuf, the candidate he supported in the 2019 Kano governorship election, have been deemed troubling by the NBA.

The NBA's National Executive Council (NEC) described the comments as capable of undermining public trust in the judiciary and the electoral justice system. Kwankwaso's visit to the Supreme Court followed the rejection of Yusuf's petition by the court, upholding Abdullahi Ganduje's victory.

The NBA has emphasized that its petition is not an assumption of guilt but a necessary step to defend the integrity of the legal system. The association has condemned the alleged false claims of judicial compromise and has called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter to uphold the sanctity of justice.
