Kwankwaso Accuses Judiciary of Corruption in Kano Election

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), accused the judiciary of corruption, specifically alleging that Supreme Court judges were influenced regarding the 2019 Kano gubernatorial election involving Abba Yusuf. Kwankwaso's claims surfaced amid political tensions following Yusuf's recent defection from NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which Kwankwaso described as the "greatest political betrayal" of his life.

He criticized the electoral process that led to Yusuf's defeat by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, emphasizing that the Supreme Court dismissed Yusuf's appeal in January 2020, affirming Ganduje's victory. Kwankwaso urged the judiciary to investigate his claims, which were denied by retired Justice Musa Muhammad Dattijo, who stated that no meeting occurred between the judges and Yusuf regarding the election.

The ongoing political crisis within the NNPP has intensified following Yusuf's resignation, which he attributed to prolonged leadership disputes within the party.
