April 2026 Food Prices Rise, Tomato Prices Up 6.60%

The National Bureau of Statistics released a report on food prices for April 2026, indicating a month-on-month increase in several staple items. The average price of 1 kg of tomatoes rose by 6.60% from March 2026, reaching ₦1,177.92, although it decreased by 8.23% compared to April 2025.

The average price of 1 kg of brown beans increased by 0.99% to ₦1,338.93, but saw a significant year-on-year decrease of 44.89%. Similarly, the price of 1 kg of white garri rose by 0.93% to ₦808.96, while it dropped by 39.86% from the previous year.

Other items such as onions and fresh ginger also experienced month-on-month increases. The report highlighted regional price variations, with Bayelsa recording the highest average price for tomatoes at ₦1,600.73 and Plateau having the lowest at ₦730.48.

The analysis underscores the ongoing fluctuations in food prices across Nigeria.
