NCAA Grounds Jet, Suspends Pilots Over Asaba Incident

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded a charter jet and suspended its pilots due to an incident where the aircraft landed on a road instead of the runway at Asaba Airport in Delta State. Capt.

Chris Najomo, the Director General of NCAA, announced the sanctions on Wednesday during a business summit in Lagos. The incident, which occurred last month, raised serious concerns within Nigeria's aviation industry and prompted calls for a full investigation.

The NCAA has suspended the aircraft's permit to fly pending the outcome of ongoing investigations, which are being handled by the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). The Department of State Services (DSS) is also involved in the investigation.

Najomo stated that the pilot, who has 45 years of experience, should not have landed on a road. The NCAA is conducting its own independent inquiry while ensuring that issues related to monopolistic and anti-competitive practices in the aviation sector are addressed.
