NCAA Reports High Flight Disruptions in Nigeria's Aviation

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reported that more than 60% of domestic flights were either delayed or cancelled, raising concerns among travelers. Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines recorded the highest number of disruptions, attributed to their extensive domestic flight operations.

However, the NCAA's report lacked context regarding factors influencing these disruptions, such as passenger loads, airport congestion, weather conditions, and navigational limitations. Major challenges include inadequate apron capacity at airports like Lagos and Abuja, which can cause delays that impact subsequent flights.

Additionally, Nigeria's aviation infrastructure is insufficient for modern air transport, with some airports lacking functional Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), hindering safe operations during adverse weather. These systemic challenges contribute significantly to flight disruptions, indicating that the issues are not solely the airlines' responsibility.
