NCAN Leadership Crisis: Adesokan Claims Legitimacy

The leadership crisis within the Nigerian Cashew Association (NCAN) intensifies as Mr. Ademola Adesokan asserts his legitimacy amid ongoing policy disagreements with Dr.

Ojo Ajanaku. Adesokan emerged as president during the association's annual general meeting in Lagos on January 20, 2026, dismissing Ajanaku's claims of unlawful leadership.

He argues that Ajanaku's tenure expired in November 2022, according to NCAN's 2007 constitution, which prescribes a single three-year term. Adesokan contends that Ajanaku lacks the authority to expel or suspend board trustees, as his term ended, rendering such actions invalid.

A court judgment from November 9, 2019, supports Adesokan's position, directing NCAN to adhere to its 2007 constitution. The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment has warned that actions contrary to court rulings could have legal consequences.
