NCC boss, Maida reiterates commission’s commitment to presidential order on telecom infrastructure

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, reiterated the commission's commitment to implementing the presidential order designating telecommunication infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII). Speaking at a strategic stakeholder meeting with the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Maida highlighted the importance of safeguarding these assets due to their role in emergency communication, financial transactions, and government operations.

The designation of telecom towers, fibre optic networks, and data centers as CNII recognizes their critical role in Nigeria's economy and security. With 171 million mobile subscribers and a significant contribution to the GDP, the telecom sector faces threats such as cyber attacks, physical disruptions, and theft.

Maida emphasized the need for collective protection of these assets, aligning with the National Digital Economy Policy Strategy 2030. The NCC will launch a nationwide initiative to educate stakeholders on the importance of protecting CNII to ensure national resilience and digital sovereignty.
