NCC Extends Deadline for Device Registration to 2026

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced an extension of the deadline for registering SIM-enabled mobile phones and other communications devices on its Device Management System (DMS) from September 7 to October 6, 2026. This decision follows concerns raised by stakeholders, including the Association of Mobile Communication Device Technicians of Nigeria (AMCODET), regarding difficulties in completing the registration process.

The NCC indicated that some industry players faced challenges due to a lack of required licenses or certifications. The extension is intended to provide additional time for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), importers, dealers, and vendors to comply with the registration requirements.

Stakeholders have called for a phased implementation of the policy, citing concerns about the short timeframe for onboarding processes and ambiguities in the DMS, including the absence of a clear appeal process for flagged devices. Additionally, there are worries about the financial implications for businesses and consumers, particularly regarding shipments in transit and the costs of technician training.
