NCC Launches Device Dealer Licensing in Kano State

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has initiated the licensing of device dealers in Kano State as part of its implementation of the Device Checker platform. Engr. Ibrahim Ma’azu, the team leader support services of the NCC, announced this at a press briefing in Kano.
The Device Checker platform aims to strengthen type approval compliance, protect consumers, and enhance the integrity of communication devices used on Nigerian networks. Ma’azu emphasized the importance of ensuring that devices connected to networks comply with technical and regulatory standards as Nigeria's digital economy expands.
The platform will help verify the type approval status of SIM-enabled devices and combat the circulation of non-compliant and counterfeit devices. The NCC has streamlined the licensing process, allowing many dealers in Kano to obtain licenses.
Additionally, a user-friendly Device Checker application has been developed for stakeholders to scan IMEI numbers. Ma’azu reassured that the platform does not access personal data and urged consumers to verify devices before purchase.
