NCC Collaborates with NJI on Telecoms Safety and Law

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is seeking collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI) to tackle challenges facing the telecommunications sector from a legal perspective. This was disclosed during the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop in Lagos.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, noted that despite significant progress in the sector, including a broadband penetration increase from 47% in 2025 to 54.3% in 2026, telecom infrastructure is under constant threat from vandalism and theft.

The workshop's theme emphasized the judiciary's critical role in protecting telecommunications infrastructure and ensuring online safety. Chief Idri Olorunimb, Chairman of the NCC Board, highlighted the need for the judiciary to engage with regulatory and legal challenges within the digital ecosystem.

Justice Babatund Adejumo of NJI underscored the judiciary's pivotal role in harmonizing rights and freedoms in the evolving telecommunications environment. The workshop aimed to provide a platform for constructive engagement between the judiciary and the telecommunications sector.
