NCC Hackathon 2026 Focuses on Digital Solutions for PWDs

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) held the fourth edition of the Hackathon Live Show 2026 in Abuja on Wednesday, themed “Technology Without Barriers: Innovative Solutions for Persons with Disabilities.” This two-day event featured 20 contestants tasked with developing practical and scalable digital solutions to enhance accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and underserved communities. Rimini Makama, the Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, emphasized that the hackathon transcended a mere technology competition, aiming to foster a digital society where technology is inclusive.

Represented by Usman Malah, Director of Zonal Operations, Makama urged participants to create affordable and user-friendly solutions. Helen Obi, Director of the Digital Economy Department at NCC, highlighted the importance of innovations that function in low-bandwidth and offline environments.

Contestants presented various solutions, including AI-powered speech-to-text tools and accessible customer-care platforms. The hackathon was limited to young innovators aged 18 to 35 residing in the Federal Capital Territory.
