NCC Empowers Persons With Disabilities in Digital Skills

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) organized a two-day Digital Citizenship Training for Persons With Disabilities on September 9 and 10, 2026, at Cordis Hotel, Lagos. The training aimed to promote digital inclusion by equipping participants with practical digital skills and cybersecurity knowledge.

Facilitated by Fornido Development Company, the program covered digital foundations, accessibility features on mobile devices, online safety, and professional networking. Lead facilitator Binta Gali Agbonika emphasized the importance of addressing the exclusion of persons with disabilities from the digital space, highlighting that many were unaware of the accessibility features on their devices.

The training also focused on cybersecurity, teaching participants how to protect personal information and identify digital risks. Discussions included digital identity and rights, particularly concerning the unauthorized use of images and videos.

Participants were informed of their rights regarding consent and the removal of content featuring them without permission. The initiative aims to empower persons with disabilities to utilize technology for education, employment, and economic participation.
