NCPWD Launches Talent Show for Persons with Disabilities

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) inaugurated committees for a reality talent show aimed at empowering persons with disabilities on Thursday in Abuja. The initiative, organized in partnership with the Discovering Abilities in Disabilities Initiative (DADI), seeks to shift the narrative surrounding persons with disabilities from sympathy and charity to ability, talent, and empowerment.

The show, themed “Discovering Abilities in Disabilities,” will feature 14 finalists—two from each of the six geopolitical zones and two from the Federal Capital Territory—who will live together for 30 days to compete and learn. The project is supported by a N1 billion Ability Talent Fund for talent development and post-show opportunities.

Six sub-committees were inaugurated to handle various aspects of the show, including mobilization, sponsorship, media, branding, logistics, and inclusion. Steve Rodstick Ezeh, founder of DADI, emphasized that the show would promote self-reliance and advance the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
