NCCC Advocates Natural Gas as Africa's Bridge Fuel

The Nigerian Climate Change Council (NCCC), led by Director General Majekodunmi Omotenioy, has advocated for the use of natural gas as a bridge fuel to facilitate Africa's industrial growth while aligning with global climate commitments. This advocacy was presented during a three-day conference organized by Greenplinth Africa in Lagos, themed "Decarbonising Africa: Pathway to Climate Finance and Sustainable Growth." Omotenioy noted the unique challenges Africa faces in pursuing rapid industrial growth while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions.

She emphasized that Africa must achieve industrial growth, energy security, and economic prosperity while advancing the global climate agenda. The NCCC highlighted Nigeria's substantial natural gas reserves, estimated at 600 trillion cubic feet, which can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

Additionally, Benu State's Deputy Governor Sam Od and Niger State's Abubakar Musa discussed their states' commitments to environmental sustainability and clean energy initiatives, underscoring the urgency of decarbonization and the need for investment in green opportunities.
