Stephen Mangongo Named New Coach of Nigeria's Yellow Greens

The Nigeria Cricket Federation has appointed Zimbabwean coach Stephen Mangongo as the new head coach of the Yellow Greens, succeeding Kenyan coach Steve Tikolo, who held the position for three years. Mangongo's appointment follows a four-month search by the NCF and is set to last from October 2022 until January 2026.

This move is part of Nigeria's preparations for the ICC 2028 T20 World Cup qualifiers later this year. Mangongo brings nearly 30 years of coaching experience, having previously worked with Zimbabwe's U15 and U19 teams, as well as the senior men's national team.

Notably, he led Zimbabwe to a historic victory over Australia in a tri-series in 2014. His coaching credentials include participation in three ICC U19 World Cups and serving as an assistant coach in four ICC Men's World Cups.

Mangongo has also established a private cricket academy in Johannesburg and has mentored prominent Zimbabwean cricketers.
