NCPWD Applauds UN Resolution on Assistive Technology

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's resolution on Access to Assistive Technology, adopted by consensus on 2nd September 2026. This resolution, presented by Pakistan and co-sponsored by over 40 Member States, marks a historic commitment to recognizing assistive technology as vital for sustainable development and the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, Executive Secretary of NCPWD, stated that assistive technology is essential for participation and independent living, aiding access to education, employment, and healthcare. He noted the relevance of the resolution to Nigeria, where access to affordable assistive technology is crucial for PWDs' full participation in national development.

Gufwan commended the UN for promoting the integration of assistive technology into national systems and stressed the need for sustainable financing and effective supply chains. He reaffirmed NCPWD's commitment to collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance access to assistive technology across Nigeria.
