Nigeria Develops Strategic Plan for Disability Rehabilitation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has committed to creating a strategic work plan focused on rehabilitation and assistive technology for individuals living with disabilities. This announcement was made by Dr Ahmad Muhammad Ozi, the Director of the Family Health department at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, during the opening speech at the three-day National Stakeholders Zero Draft Review Meeting of the National Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Strategic Plan.

This initiative marks the first of its kind in Nigeria and aligns with the ministry's priorities. Dr Ozi emphasized the importance of universal health coverage and the need for collaboration with partners, the private sector, and stakeholders to successfully implement this plan.

Dr Nassib Tawa, WHO Regional Rehabilitation Consultant for Africa, highlighted the significant rehabilitation needs across the continent and the potential for African countries to enhance their public health systems to provide necessary services and technologies.
