Nigeria Commits to Assistive Technology for Disabilities

The federal government of Nigeria has pledged to create a strategic work plan focused on rehabilitation and assistive technology for individuals living with disabilities. Dr Ahmad Muhammad Ozi, the director of the Family Health Department at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, made this announcement during the opening speech of the 3 Day National Stakeholders Zero Draft Review Meeting of the National Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Strategic Plan.

This initiative marks the first of its kind in Nigeria's history and aligns with the ministry's priorities. Dr Ozi emphasized the importance of universal health coverage and the need for collaboration with partners, the private sector, and stakeholders to successfully develop this strategic plan.

Dr Nassib Tawa, the Regional Rehabilitation Consultant for Africa, highlighted that investing in rehabilitation and assistive products is crucial for restoring functionality to individuals, allowing them to contribute to the socio-economic development of society and the nation.
