NDC Defends Primaries, Rejects Candidate Imposition Claims

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a statement defending its recent presidential and governorship primaries, rejecting claims of candidate imposition. The party, represented by National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, insisted that the primaries were conducted transparently and in accordance with constitutional guidelines.

The NDC emphasized that all aspirants were given fair opportunities to participate in the democratic process. The statement highlighted the involvement of prominent leaders from the South East, including Peter Obi and former governors such as Onyema Ugochukwu, Sam Egwu, Okwesilieze Nwodo, and Achike Udenwa, who were part of the consultation process.

The NDC acknowledged complaints from aspirants regarding premature declarations and referred these matters to the party's appeal panel for resolution. Additionally, the NDC expressed its commitment to increasing female participation in elections and stated that it would continue to engage stakeholders to ensure a cohesive party structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
