NDC Defends Primaries Against Candidate Imposition Claims

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a statement defending its recent presidential and governorship primaries, rejecting allegations of candidate imposition. The party, represented by National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, asserted that the primaries were conducted transparently and in line with democratic principles.

The NDC emphasized that all aspirants were afforded fair opportunities to participate in the electoral process. The statement highlighted the involvement of prominent leaders from the South East Geopolitical Zone, including Peter Obi and other former governors, in the consultation process.

The NDC acknowledged complaints regarding premature declarations by some aspirants but noted that these issues would be addressed by the party's appeal panel. The National Executive Committee (NEC) has already approved a reconciliation process aimed at healing grievances and strengthening party unity in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
