NDC Defends Primary Elections, Rejects Candidate Imposition

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a statement defending the conduct of its recent primary elections, asserting that no candidates were imposed on the party. The statement, released from the party's national secretariat, was made by Ikenna Alex Morgan Enekweizu, who emphasized that the NDC's primary process involved consultations and consensus-building among stakeholders.

The party's leadership structure includes significant figures such as Peter Obi, the presidential candidate, and various caucus leaders from the Southeast, including Onyema Ugochukwu, Sam Egwu, Okwesilieze Nwodo, and Achike Udenwa. The NDC acknowledged reports of aspirants prematurely declaring themselves candidates and noted that complaints had arisen regarding aspects of the primary process.

The NDC's National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved to commence a reconciliation process following the conclusion of the primaries. The party reaffirmed its commitment to fair and transparent elections, encouraging female participation and direct engagement with grassroots leaders.
