PDP Condemns Court Order Against NDC as Democratic Setback

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement on Thursday condemning a Federal High Court order that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). PDP's interim national publicity secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, characterized the court's decision as a setback for democracy in Nigeria.

The party expressed concern that the ruling would further constrict the democratic space in the country, particularly as it relates to the upcoming elections. PDP argued that the order undermines multi-party democracy and could lead to economic losses for the country, as it limits the resources available for political competition.

The PDP accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of attempting to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. The PDP urged the NDC leadership to challenge the court order through legal means and called on the federal government to take steps to reduce political tension in Nigeria to ensure peace and stability.
