PDP Criticizes Court Ruling Against NDC as Democratic Setback

The People's Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Dr. Tanimu Turaki, has condemned a recent Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The court's decision, made on a Friday, overturned an earlier judgment that had allowed the NDC to remain registered. Turaki described the ruling as a significant setback for democracy, expressing concern over its implications for the political landscape in Nigeria.

He emphasized that the court's order constricts democratic space and undermines the efforts of various political parties, particularly as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections. Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP's public secretary, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the court's actions to weaken opposition parties.

He urged the NDC to vigorously challenge the ruling within the legal framework and called for support from the Nigerian populace to protect democratic integrity.
