Atiku Accuses Tinubu of One-Party State Agenda

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused President Bola Tinubu of trying to establish a one-party state in Nigeria following the recent move to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). In a statement issued by his media office on Saturday, Atiku warned that this action undermines Nigeria's democracy and reflects Tinubu's true intentions, which he described as contradictory to his claims of being a democrat.

Atiku emphasized that citizens should not be afraid of free and fair elections, which are foundational to democracy. He urged Tinubu to emulate former presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, who did not deregister opposition parties during their tenures.

Atiku further stated that Tinubu cannot champion democracy if he resorts to dictatorial practices, calling on the judiciary to maintain its independence and resist political pressure, as it is the last hope for justice in Nigeria.
