Jega Urges Tinubu to Condemn Judicial Actions Against Opposition

Mahmud Jega, a political analyst, has advised President Bola Tinubu to openly condemn the judicial actions against opposition parties, specifically referencing the recent judgment against the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) by the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Jega warned that Nigeria's democracy is at risk if opposition parties are prevented from contesting in the 2027 general elections.

He expressed concern over the growing perception of a coordinated effort to weaken opposition parties, which could lead to the end of democracy in Nigeria. Jega recalled a similar situation in 2001 when the PDP, under President Olusegun Obasanjo, faced opposition from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and emphasized the importance of the presidency distancing itself from actions that undermine democracy.

He noted that the current situation, where parties like the PDP, ADC, Labour Party, NNPP, SDPC, and PRP are involved in legal battles, reflects a troubling trend that could hinder democratic processes.
