NDC to Appeal Court Ruling on Party Deregistration

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to appeal a Federal High Court ruling delivered by Justice Isah Dashen, which the party insists did not result in its deregistration. NDC Chairman Senator Mose Cleopa stated that the ruling, made on a Friday, does not affect the party's candidacy or political activities.

He instructed the legal team to contest the decision, arguing that the trial court lacked jurisdiction to revisit its own final judgment. The NDC maintains that the Peace Movement Party (PMP) is neither a registered political party nor part of the ongoing registration process with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Cleopa emphasized that the court's ruling should have no immediate effect on the NDC's candidacy and assured the public that the party would continue its political activities. He condemned the ruling as an attempt to undermine opposition parties and restrict democratic space in Nigeria.

The NDC plans to hold a press conference to outline its next steps following the court's decision.
