Legal Challenge for NDC Registration by Obi and Kwankwaso

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), represented by Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, is embroiled in a fresh legal battle concerning its registration process. Dr. Umar Ardo, promoting the Democratic Alliance, has filed a legal challenge against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), asserting that the NDC failed to meet the required standards for registration as stipulated by the Electoral Act 2022.

This challenge follows INEC's earlier announcement that it had approved two political parties, including the NDC, after a court order. Ardo contends that the registration process raises serious questions about compliance with constitutional provisions and INEC's own guidelines.

He highlights that the NDC's application lacked necessary documentation, including a complete membership list and a constitutional manifesto. The legal action aims to ensure adherence to due process in political party registration, emphasizing that the issues at stake extend beyond party rivalry and threaten public confidence in Nigeria's electoral system.
