NDC Receives INEC Registration Certificate After Legal Battle

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially received its registration certificate from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), marking a significant milestone in its long journey that began in 2017. Reuben Egwuaba, the NDC's legal advisor, accepted the certificate on behalf of the party during a ceremony attended by INEC's Director of Electoral Parties Monitoring, Joan Arab.

The NDC was among 171 political organizations that applied for registration, but faced initial rejection due to claims that its logo bore a close resemblance to that of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The NDC challenged this decision in court, arguing that INEC's refusal was based on incorrect assumptions and improper discretion.

The court ultimately ruled in favor of the NDC, stating that there were no valid grounds for INEC's stance. This ruling reaffirms the judiciary's role as a protector of democracy and justice in Nigeria.
