NDC Removes Kwankwaso's Candidates in Kano for 2027 Elections

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has made significant changes to its candidate list in Kano State, removing individuals previously nominated by the Kwankwasiyya bloc in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This decision appears to be a strategic move to enforce a political agreement aimed at power-sharing within the party.

The updated list, which reflects a 60-40 share formula between the Kwankwasiyya faction and the existing NDC structure, was reportedly signed by the Kano State chairman, Hussaini Isah Mairiga. Key figures involved include NDC national leader Seriake Dickson and Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The adjustments affect various federal constituencies and state assembly tickets, with concerns raised by party leaders about the allocation process not properly reflecting the agreed terms, creating tensions among stakeholders. NDC spokesperson Comrade Ibrahim Waya defended the leadership's actions as necessary to maintain unity within the party.
