NDC Reports N8.5bn Revenue, N2.4bn Spending in Seven Months

Nigeria's newest political party disclosed its financial records at a NEC meeting, generating funds from nomination forms and membership dues.
After operating for seven months, the Nigeria Democratic Congress unveiled its financial standing at the party's National Executive Committee gathering held in Abuja on Monday. National Treasurer Dr Peter Onigah presented figures showing that N8.529 billion was collected through various channels, against expenditures of N2.402 billion devoted to party operations.
Sources of income included proceeds from nomination form sales, member dues, levies assessed on members, and voluntary supporter contributions. Funds were spent on organizing primaries, running publicity initiatives, compensating staff members, and covering miscellaneous operational needs.
The transparency initiative was championed by National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas, who framed it as demonstrating the party's dedication to responsible stewardship and fiscal responsibility. During the same gathering, the NDC called on competing parties such as the All Progressives Congress and African Democratic Congress to likewise make their financial statements available for public inspection.
This action served as a calculated strategy to position the party as distinctly transparent as it approaches its inaugural anniversary milestone. The treasurer's records showed precise figures: N8,529,632,438.77 in revenue, with N2,402,461,479.77 in documented disbursements.
This calculation yielded a remainder of roughly N6.1 billion in unspent funds, a consequence of the revenue-dominant financial pattern typical for nascent political movements during their formative years.
