NDC Protests INEC Over Exclusion of Ekiti Senate Candidates

Members and supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) protested at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ekiti State, demanding the reinstatement of Prince Adeyinka Ali and Ayokunle Olusegun as candidates for the Ekiti North and Ekiti South Senatorial Districts, respectively. The candidates were initially recognized by INEC after emerging from the party's senatorial primary election held on May 29, 2026.

However, their names were later removed from the final list published by INEC, prompting concerns among party members about the implications for the NDC's chances in the 2027 general elections. Adediji Segun, speaking on behalf of Olusegun, emphasized the candidates' significant investment in the party and questioned the rationale behind their exclusion.

Emmanuel Olamidotun, leader of the Obedient Movement in Ekiti State, condemned the situation as unjust and called for the removal of David Adesua from the party. NDC Publicity Secretary Olawale Olatunde warned that failure to restore the candidates' names could jeopardize the party's electoral prospects.
