NDLEA Arrests 336 Suspects, Destroys 207,000kg of Cannabis in Ondo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 336 suspects involved in cannabis-related offenses in Ondo State, seizing 22,316 kilograms of illicit drugs and destroying 207,000 kilograms of cannabis plantations throughout the state in 2025. NDLEA Chairman, Brig.

Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd.), emphasized the devastating effects of drug abuse on families and communities, linking it to criminal activities like Boko Haram terrorism and kidnappings.

Ondo State reportedly has a 17% drug use prevalence, representing 400,000 people, compared to Lagos State's 33%. The NDLEA has made significant arrests, secured convictions, and initiated rehabilitation programs in the state.

Ondo State Governor, Lucki Aiyedatiwa, pledged full support for NDLEA's efforts and acknowledged the need for alternative development programs to address drug-related challenges. The state's conducive climate and soil conditions contribute to its status as a major cannabis producer in Nigeria, prompting the NDLEA to introduce initiatives promoting legal agriculture.

Governor Aiyedatiwa commended NDLEA's enforcement actions and expressed readiness to collaborate on alternative development strategies.
